The Global Initiative on JWC started working on the DATA MOSAIC project together with Penal Reform International (Project coordinator), Terre des Hommes / Tierra de Hombres, the Social Activities and Practice Institute (SAPI), Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and with the support of child justice authorities in Bulgaria, Ireland and Romania.

The project aims to prevent violence against imprisoned children and enhance data collection regarding violence against children in justice systems. Over the next two years, the Data MOSAIC team aims to analyse current practices in addressing violence against children in EU prisons. DATA MOSAIC’s team will develop a data collection tool and guidelines based on identified gaps and child-friendly, human rights-based practices. This involves conducting in-depth research and piloting the tool in detention facilities in Bulgaria, Ireland, and Romania. Importantly, we will collaborate with children, young people with justice system experience, international experts, and frontline staff to ensure the tools and guidelines reflect diverse perspectives and lived experiences.
