This guide, developed by Terre des Hommes under the Commission of Westminster Foundation for Democracy, provides a practical and detailed analysis of the recent measures and policy frameworks on Child justice and counter-terrorism adopted at both domestic, regional and international levels. It highlights examples of best and promising practices that are emerging in the Middle East region and globally and recommends actions and policies relevant for justice systems dealing with children and young people involved in national security and terrorism-related offences. It also addresses the gender dimension of child justice, an issue often overlooked, and provides an analysis on the reintegration strategies for children and youth in conflict with law in counter-terrorism context, as well as insights about mental health and psychosocial child-friendly practices on the field. It concludes with examples of innovative approaches that shall be adopted in order to ensure effective reintegration such as the Desistance from crime approach.
