Policy brief on Digital Justice for Children

This document discusses the emergence of digital justice innovations worldwide, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. While these innovations have provided quick adaptations and learning opportunities for justice systems, there is a risk of uncritically adopting technologies that may worsen existing problems. The document focuses on the potential impacts of applying technologies to digital justice spaces involving children and provides recommendations for policymakers and supporting bodies. It builds upon the Global Initiative on Justice With Children’s Global Campaign on Accelerating the Release of Children: Protecting Children from COVID-19 and its upcoming research papers on virtual courts for children and predictive child justice. The document emphasizes the importance of understanding the implications and implementing safeguards when using digital innovations in justice for children, in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals related to ending abuse and ensuring equal access to justice for children.
