Pulling You Out. A Report on Opportunities to Apply Alternatives to Post Trial Detention in Palestine

This report introduces and provides clarity on the alternative to detention measures developed within the Palestinian national domestic law. It highlights the importance of alternative measures to ensure that more and more children deprived of liberty, or who would otherwise be deprived of liberty, are offered non-custodial measures. Indeed, the aim of this report is to suggest and promote alternatives to detention measures and consequently reduce the number of children in detention in Palestine. Hence, it highlights the concepts and principles of juvenile justice related to the use of alternative measures; underlines the importance of alternative to detention as a restorative approach and practice; provides guidance on different phases of children’s case management benefitting from alternative to detention. Finally, it recommends some promising practices for implementing alternative to detention such as vocational trainings, family groups conferencing and restorative gestures.
