Informal juvenilesjustice system at Palestinian Refugees camps in Jordan (Wehdat camp)

This study investigates and analyzes the informal juvenile justice system in Wehdat Camp, a Palestinian refugee camp in Jordan, and the extent of the relationship between the informal justice system and the Jordanian formal justice system. This study is based on a thorough literature review; interviews with local actors; focus groups with children living in the Wehdat Camp. Findings show that the informal justice system is generally focused on conflict resolution and social peace rather than promotion and fostering of the best interests of the child. Another element that emerges is the low rate of children involvement in the processes of dispute resolution. Finally, the study concludes that formal justice system and informal juvenile justice system should develop integrated processes in order to uphold children’s rights.
