The potential and limitations of Artificial Intelligence chatbots to improve children’s access to child friendly justice

This legal study explores the relationship between children’s rights, artificial intelligence chatbots, and access to justice and information.

Child victims of crime in Europe often lack easy access to information about their rights within the legal system. The i-ACCESS MyRights project aims to enhance access to justice for children in contact with the law, by developing an AI-driven, child-centric chatbot that provides child-friendly information about legal rights and procedures.

It examines the potential and limitations of AI applications in the context of children’s rights, provides a detailed review of the legal and policy framework, and suggests practical solutions for designing and developing tools and solutions that address the special needs and vulnerabilities of children in contact with the law. The analysis also explores the practical application of the principles of “do no harm” and “safety by design and default”.
